NMED 3203 / TEACHING APPROACH & BIBLIOGRAPHY
Play an idea.
Read it. Change it.
The eight premise/promise pairs are this course’s teaching framework. The publications below offer conceptual, empirical and critical lenses; they do not establish this framework as a canonical taxonomy or demonstrate the learning effectiveness of this platform.
How the learning activities connect
Editable experiments invite learners to make and inspect a change. Constructionism (Papert & Harel, 1991) and Scratch (Resnick et al., 2009) inform this making-and-remixing approach. Constructive alignment (Biggs, 1996) connects each learning goal to an activity and evidence in the remix submission.
Playing with an interface alone does not guarantee deeper learning. In ICAP (Chi & Wylie, 2014), interactive engagement refers to people constructing understanding together. The prompts therefore invite prediction, explanation and comparison, with optional peer discussion.
Feedback on a learner’s work (Hattie & Timperley, 2007) differs from the interface feedback studied in the sequencer lesson. Remix assessment can consider the artefact, the design decisions and the learner’s account of the change (Brennan & Resnick, 2012).
How to use the readings
Begin with the chapter’s Start here selection. Further readings and counterpoints are optional. Each chapter distinguishes academic publications from artist and project documentation.
Some links lead to publicly readable author or institutional copies; others lead to book records, excerpts or publications that may require library access. A publicly readable copy does not imply permission to redistribute it. This collection links to sources rather than bundling their full texts.
The research included selected full-text sections, abstracts and publisher records. Books were not read in full for this curation. The accompanying research dossier records the review depth for each work. Source links were checked during the research dated 19 October 2026; future access may change.
